I like the idea of a garden. I think the students could learn a lot from this hands on experience. Especially, if you incorporate this into the science curriculum. One suggestion, is have you thought about letting the students have input as to which plants that could go in the garden?
I agree with Chance, having the students decide what to plant can help them take ownership of it. Also, when I worked at an alternative education campus we had a garden and when all of the vegetables were ready one of our teachers made a big pot of soup for all of the kids and teachers involved. It was fantastic.
Misty, your plan looks great. If you need extra help with the project, you might look at recruiting help from your high school Ag department or from local businesses.
